SUICIDE AND SELF HARM
This training provides participants with skills to identify and communicate with children and young people (as well as colleagues) at risk of self harm and suicide.
This is an important aspect of CHILD PROTECTION training which is frequently overlooked.
A clear distinction is made between self harm and suicide: current thinking, statistics and methods of management are provided.
Following extensive trials in 2017 and 2018 two courses are now available:
- Suicide and Self Harm Prevention and Response: Foundation Course: this is for teaching and pastoral staff who have not had training in this. It is particularly suitable for residential/ boarding house staff, pastoral staff (especially when new to the role) and Physical Education teachers.
- Suicide and Self Harm Prevention and Response: Advanced Course: this is for school counsellors and psychologists as well as teaching staff who have completed the Suicide and Self Harm Foundation Course. Careers counsellors who have not had counselling training in this area should attend the Foundation Course first.
The format is discussion and activity based. This is a useful and practical training day that empowers staff to manage situations relating to suicide and self harm.
Training will be available in South East Asia throughout 2019.
Preliminary dates are as follows:
KUALA LUMPUR: Foundation Course Tuesday 12th March, Advanced Course Wednesday 13th March 2019

COMMENTS FROM ATTENDEES
“The most useful aspects of the training were the activities, role-playing and open ended discussions. Sharing what each school does and their protocols was very helpful.”
